California Staffing Professionals annual conference held at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert and the Los Angeles Chapter received three awards. Yvonne Rockwell of Royal Staffing was the recipient of the Staffing Professional of the Year award for the Los Angeles Chapter. The “Staffing Professional of the Year” Award recognizes deserving individuals in the industry based upon Standards of Excellence for production, education/accreditation, leadership and business development superiority.

Chapter President Joe Cummings of Royal Staffing received the Diamond Award for the Los Angeles Chapter. The Diamond Award is presented to the Chapter Presidents who have met the required criteria. They are the driving force behind their Chapter Board of Directors. The Diamond Award is achieved through providing their chapter members a variety of benefits including chapter meetings, continued education opportunities, legal and legislative updates. The Chapter President must also grow the chapter membership and promote the chapter through public relations in their geographical area. Dear CSP Members,

We're just at the beginning of a new fiscal year for CSP and I wanted to indulge myself in the pleasure of introducing myself to you.

I'm Judy Lawton, CEO of TLC Staffing in San Diego, Carlsbad and Ontario, CA and I'm your brand, spanking new President. First of all, I want to extend sincere thanks to past President Joan Boragine and her able board for their assistance and steady hand during one of the most horrific economic downturns in our history. They supplied us with several great tips on how to survive this crisis and also put on one heck of a good spring conference that showed us not only a grand time, but gave us lots of armor to guide our businesses back to financial health.
As you can clearly see, I've got some big shoes to fill. But, I've got an accomplished board of my own, filled with lots of returning veteran members plus many new and enthusiastic ones who are "at the ready" to serve you in the style to which you've become accustomed. We'll be very visible and will be rolling out several new programs to benefit you, our members, in this coming year. Be looking for this outstanding newsletter to reach you quarterly and I can tell you that it will be chock full of good news about our industry, legislative challenges, handy tips, and suggestions; and we invite your input. If you've got an article or a news item that you'd like to share, please feel free to do so.

We've been using an expression around our offices that puts a much needed smile on people's faces, and it states, "FLAT IS THE NEW UP." Well, we're getting a little tired of that rhetoric and have decided to be more optimistic, so we're now saying, "UP IS THE NEW UP." Let the orders begin! I wish I could wave my magic fairy wand to make this all go away, but don't you feel the change coming? I certainly do. And while business hasn't impressed me much yet, there are plenty of things in the old pipeline and we're holding our collective breaths for things to start to pop! Put your affairs in order, take your vacations now and make sure your bank has enough money to fund your ascent and get ready to fill some job orders! Let's hear some good news for a change. And while we're at it, let's all pull together. We're so much stronger as a solid unit and CSP is just the vehicle to make that happen.

Three cheers for the upcoming year! My board and I are proud to be at the helm of an important organization. Communication will be my mantra and you'll be hearing plenty from all of us!
