Note from the CSP State President Heather Leemon Raboff, CAC

Dear CSP Members,

I’ve been watching the weather reports and the views of the tornados affecting our country and realized how much I’ve learned while traveling in “Stormy Weather”.   Quite some years ago, I was traveling back home to Los Angeles after a 6 week and over 5000 mile Rodeo tour throughout the southwest.  My last stop was in Dallas to see my best friend for a few days.  I mapped out my path and chose to take the 287 to the 40 and make a stop in Amarillo, almost 400 miles and a 6.5 hour drive.

It was a beautiful September day, just after Labor Day.  I made a few stops here and there, picked up some roadside beef jerky and other snacks and enjoyed the smooth scenic drive. As I headed into the Texas pan-handle the sky began to change.  It was mid afternoon and the sky quickly grew darker and darker.  Off in the distance I saw lightening and it began to rain.  I’m a California girl.   I really didn’t know what was happening.  I was one of a few cars on the road along with the many trucks.  The weather grew worse and the hail began.  We all slowed our speed and the trucks flashed their lights to pull me in between them.  I followed their slow and steady lead.  As the weather grew un-drivable, we all pulled to the side of road and waited till it was safe to drive.

I stayed with my new trucker friends until the weather began to clear and blue skies were in the near distance.  I put my arm out the window gave my new friends a big thumbs up, flashed my lights and moved into the fast lane with my hand still out - turning into a long grateful wave.

Our immediate Past President, Judy Lawton, has done an amazing job leading us through these past two years of “Stormy Weather”.  So my dear friend, I extend a big thumbs up and a long grateful wave as you move into the role of Immediate Past President.  I am grateful that you remain supportive and involved.  I absolutely have some big shoes to fill.

I see clear skies ahead and know we will have an “interesting” journey moving forward.  I appreciate the camaraderie of our association and the history that created it. We have an awesome group of people who volunteer to make up our state board. Our by-laws outline our purpose and our path.

Mission Statement – CSP is a non-profit membership organization that provides programs, products and services to its members in the areas of:  Education Ethics Legislative Advocacy Public Relations Accreditation and Networking with in the personnel staffing services industry.

So much has changed over just the past few years.  10 years ago we were just finding the value and the use for email, not everyone had a website and we faxed resumes. Today we have email delivery systems, social networking, online advertising, just to name a few. What’s on the horizon for us tomorrow and how can CSP best serve our members?  I ask you to reply to this email or click on the link below so you can tell me what you would like to see.

I consider the leadership role of CSP to be a great honor and I look forward to a bright future.
